Course Summary
The BTEC in Information Technology and Computing uses a combination of assessment styles to give students confidence; they can apply their knowledge to succeed in the workplace and have the study skills to continue learning on higher education courses and throughout their career.
Course Details
Total of 4 units – 3 Mandatory/1 optional
1. Information Technology Systems – students study the role of computer systems and the implications of their use in personal and professional situations. (Written exam).
2. Creating Systems to Manage Information – students study the design, creation, testing and evaluation of the relational database system to manage information. (Task undertaken in controlled environment).
3. Using Social Media in Business – students explore how businesses use social media to promote their products and services. They also implement social media activities in a business to meet requirements. (Assignment).
Optional Assignment from Data Modelling – students study how data modelling can be used to solve problems, and they will design and implement a data model to meet client requirements or Website Development. Students investigate website development principles and they design and develop a website using scripting languages.

Entry requirements
To join BG6, you must achieve five or more GCSE grades 4 or above. These must include a minimum GCSE grade 4 in English Language or Literature and Mathematics and also meet the specific subject entry requirements for courses you are interested in.
SPECIFIC SUBJECT REQUIREMENTS:
GCSE Grade 4 in English Language and GCSE Grade 4 in Mathematics. Plus a keen interest in IT.
