Course Summary
History helps students develop a number of new skills including: how to assemble data and assess it, how to investigate facts and use deduction, how to express your point of view fluently and how to work as a team to achieve results.
A Level History gives you knowledge and skills which link well with other subjects such as: English Language and Literature, Sociology and Religious Studies.
History is a vital National Curriculum subject and is given high status by university admission tutors, due to the solid preparation for higher education that it provides. History is a useful subject for those looking for careers in research, work in heritage organisations, teaching, journalism, politics, law, police work, social work and other public services.
Course Details
The ‘Breadth study’ will be, ‘The making of a superpower, USA 1865-1975’ and in this unit we will study the changes that have occurred within the USA including its place in the world and important events such as the American Civil War, The settlement of the west, World War One and Two and the creation of the atomic bomb.
The ‘Depth study’ will be ‘Religious conflict and the Church in England, c1529–c1570’. This option provides an in depth study of a period of major change in the English Church and government, focusing on issues which led England to break with Rome and the problems surrounding the establishment of a new Church and faith. It promotes an in-depth understanding of the relationship between Church and state, monarch and parliament.

Entry requirements
To join BG6, you must achieve five or more GCSE grades 4 or above. These must include a minimum GCSE grade 4 in English Language or Literature and Mathematics and also meet the specific subject entry requirements for courses you are interested in.
SPECIFIC SUBJECT REQUIREMENTS:
GCSE Grade 5 in History and GCSE Grade 5 in English Language.
