Course Summary

Urdu at BG6 has a history of excellent results at A Level and this subject provides an opportunity to study a language to a high level. Being bilingual or multi-lingual are fantastic qualities to have and they can enable personal and professional advancement. Students will develop fluency and accuracy in this language and will be able to express more complex ideas. They will gain an insight into life in the Urdu speaking world through the study of different aspects of the cultures and societies where the language is spoken. The course will prepare students for higher education and enhance their employability profile.

Course Details

Students of A Level Urdu will develop an understanding of Urdu in a variety of contexts and genres, and learn to communicate confidently, clearly and effectively in Urdu. They’ll also develop an awareness and understanding of the contemporary society, cultural background and heritage of the countries or communities where Urdu is spoken.

Students will study at least one book in Urdu. Additionally, they will carry out an independent research project on an aspect of the Urdu speaking world which interests them.

Entry requirements

To join BG6, you must achieve five or more GCSE grades 4 or above. These must include a minimum GCSE grade 4 in English Language or Literature and Mathematics and also meet the specific subject entry requirements for courses you are interested in.

SPECIFIC SUBJECT REQUIREMENTS:

GCSE Grade 5 in Urdu.
