Course Summary
Sociology seeks to explain society and the many groups which exist within it. We live in very complex times and this A Level explores how and why society works.
We will explore questions such as:
●Does everyone in society share the same experiences?
●Why do some groups succeed and others struggle?
●Why does crime exist within society and are the laws applied equally to everyone?
Course Details
Sociologists seek to identify patterns and relationships between different parts of society and establish meaning through the study of evidence. Sociology is also concerned with ideas and theories about the nature of society and the individuals in it.
We cover the following topics:
Culture and identity
Families and households
Education
Social stratification
Crime and deviance
How will it be delivered and assessed?
This qualification is assessed by three external examinations at the end of the course with an emphasis on essay writing and the application of research methods.
Entry requirements
To join BG6, you must achieve five or more GCSE grades 4 or above. These must include a minimum GCSE grade 4 in English Language or Literature and Mathematics and also meet the specific subject entry requirements for courses you are interested in.
SPECIFIC SUBJECT REQUIREMENTS:
GCSE Grade 5 in English Language.
