Course Summary
This course enables students to develop the skills needed to work within the music, sound and broadcasting industry, whilst also preparing them for university-level study. A wide range of music technology related themes will be studied including: music production techniques and audio engineering principles, planning and delivering a music product, music sequencing, sound for the moving image and sound creation and manipulation, the sound and music industry, live sound techniques, acoustics and music technology in performance.
Course Details
On this course you will learn how to create a music product, develop your listening skills and be introduced to acoustics. You will look at modern and pop music in practice as well as music technology in performance. You will spend a large amount of time in the recording studios helping to develop your engineering and production skills. There will be opportunities for you work on real live projects including location and studio based client work. You will work in groups and individually, developing music productions and events. You will also use industry-standard tools and software in state-of-the-art music recording, editing and performance studios. Units will include areas such as:
- Studio recording
- Music production techniques
- Music sequencing
- Events and promotion
- Composing music
- Music theory and harmony
- Live performance
How will it be delivered and assessed?
You will be assessed on your practical work and coursework.
Entry requirements
- Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including GCSE English and Maths
- You will be required to have a competent standard of musicianship
