Course Summary

Motor Vehicle Technicians repair and service cars, vans, motorbikes, lorries, and coaches. They work on mechanics and electrics, from engines to air-conditioning.

Course themes include identifying components, using workshop equipment, and following instructions with hand tools. You'll remove and replace components, dispose of waste, and carry out routine maintenance. The course also covers working safely, maintaining relationships, and complying with regulations.

Each unit is assessed by means of practical assessment and multiple choice online tests.

Entry requirements

Four GSCEs at grade 4 or above including English Language and Maths.

Due to the technical content of the course, the above are recommended entry requirements.

Equipment required

You will require writing and drawing materials, and suitable footwear and clothing for workshop activities.

On completion of this programme, you may wish to progress on toVehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 3. Students that show good progress and achievement can be considered for entry on to the Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship programmes offered by local companies in partnership with Barnsley College.
