Course Summary

If you are intrigued by Art and Design, this course provides an opportunity to explore and develop creativity within a structured programme of projects. This will provide a sound base of skills and knowledge but will also enhance self-confidence and reveal the potential career demands and opportunities that exist in the sector.

Course Details

The knowledge, skills and behaviours acquired on the programme, will prepare you for progression to Level 3 creative pathways, including Art and Design, Fashion Design or Graphic Design.

L2 Diploma Units:

Unit 1: Introduction to Materials, processes and Technical Skills in Art & Design

Unit 2: Introduction to Contextual Research in Art & Design

Unit 3: Introduction to Drawing Skills

Unit 4: Introduction to Communication Skills in Art & Design

Unit 5: Solving 2D Creative Problems

Unit 6: Solving 3D Creative Problems

Unit 7: Solving Time-Based Creative Problems

Unit 8: Developing and producing a Personal Project in Art & Design

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will periodically present your folder of work to your personal tutor for your evaluation record to be updated. There will also be external testing of selected units, including controlled test elements.

Entry requirements

  • English GCSE grade 3 or above. Three other subjects at 3 or above with at least a 4 in one of those subjects.
  • You will normally take part in an interview prior to being enrolled on the programme and are advised to bring a portfolio of work to your interview in order to demonstrate your interests and abilities
  • Where applicants do not quite meet the entry requirements, the tutor may use their discretion based on the portfolio and interview

Equipment required

You will require a basic personal and portable kit of materials and equipment. Your tutor will advise you on the best drawing, painting and technical equipment that you will need.

Employment – This course can form the foundations for a range of creative occupations including Graphic Designer, Concept Artist, Fashion Designer, Pattern Cutter, Gallery/Museum Curator, Illustrator, Art and Design Teacher, Interior Designer, Textile Designer, Photographer and other related roles.

Education – There are a range of other courses onto which you can progress and specialise in your creative interests. We offer Level 3 Diplomas and Extended Diplomas in Art and Design, Fashion, Graphics and Photography.
