Course Summary

To assist in the development of the spoken language we conduct lessons almost exclusively in French and encourage students to get involved with language clubs and lesson support in the lower school. Students get the opportunity to develop their fluency by attending lessons in small groups.

Aspects of French speaking society: Current issues
  • Life for the marginalised.
  • How criminals are treated.
Theme 4
  • Aspects of political life in the French-speaking world.
  • Teenagers, the right to vote and political commitment.
  • Demonstrations, strikes – who holds the power?
  • Politics and immigration.
  • Essay writing and research-based topic presentation.
  • Study of a film.
  • Study of a set text.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment Paper 1 Written Exam: 2hr 30 min
Listening, reading, writing. Translation into English and the target language. (50% of total A level) Paper 2 Written Exam: 2hr
Essay and grammar.
Questions on set text and film. (20% of total A level) Paper 3 Spoken Exam: 21-23min. Discussion of a sub-theme, based on a stimulus card. Presentation of an individual research project. (30% of total A level)

Entry requirements

Minimum requirements for admission to the Sixth Form:
  • A grade 5 in Mathematics.
  • A grade 5 in English Language or English Literature.
  • Achieving at least 3 other GCSEs at grade 6 or above.
Subject specific requirement
  • Grade 6 in French
