Catering: Culinary Skills Level 2 Diploma Full-time (FCAH)

Ignite your passion for food and hospitality with the Level 2 Culinary Skills and Hospitality Service Diploma at Barnsley College! This hands-on, full-time course is perfect for aspiring chefs and hospitality professionals eager to master the art of cooking and front-of-house service. Learn in state-of-the-art kitchens and gain real-world experience by running afternoon service for actual diners in the College’s on-site restaurant, The Open Kitchen.

Course themes:

• Cakes, biscuits and sponges.

• Chocolate and sugar work.

• Doughs, batters and pastries.

• Hot, cold and frozen desserts.

• Petit fours and decorative items.

• Food safety and kitchen leadership.

There will be practical observations and assessments and written coursework assignments that will be submitted in your final portfolio.

• Attend a taster day. The dates for the taster days will be shared at your interview.
• Independent Study Task (set at interview)
• Complete, at least Module 1 of the Food Standards Agency’s Food Allergy and Intolerance Training.
• Submit a completed work placement proposal form. This will be provided at your interview.
• GCSE Grade 4 or above in English Language and Maths at grade 4 or above is desirable.

Upon completion, you could progress onto the Professional Cookery Level 3 Diploma, the Level 3 Diploma in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership or the Patisserie and Confectionary Level 3 Diploma.

Alternatively, you could also go on to gain employment in the catering and hospitality industry. You could become a Commis Chef or a Catering Assistant.
