Course Summary
At least half of the course will be spent carrying out practical tasks in the workshop that are carefully designed so that you are learning the principals of electrical engineering whilst you are working with your hands.
This means that you will see why the maths and science is important because as your theory skills improve, so will your practical ability.
Remember, that we cannot see, touch, taste, hear or smell electricity so you need to be able to explain how it works and why it behaves in certain ways.
Your understanding of the formulae and theories will make you a better engineer, able to design systems, install them and then commission them. That is where the money is.
We also help you to prepare for your future by giving you more than just electrical skills. We will show you how to run your own business and even let you have a go at it through enterprise projects where you learn how to manage a team and make a profit.
We have employers come into college to talk to you about what they want from an employee and we have past students visit so you can ask questions and find out what it is really like to be working as an Electrician.
You will work towards the following units to make up the full qualification:
Health & Safety
Principles of electrical science
Electrical installations technology
Installation of wiring systems & enclosures
How to communicate with others within the building trade
Each unit will include an externally set assessment to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the unit. Students will have to participate in a course suitability test within the first six weeks of the course.
