Course Summary
During the 2-year programme, students will develop the knowledge and practical skills required in the digital media industry. Students gain hands-on experience of the production process, developing their ideas from planning, through editing and post-production, to final presentation.
This Extended Certificate is equivalent to one A Level and carries equivalent UCAS points.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Year 1:
Unit 1: Media products and audiences (25%)
2 hour written exam – 80 marks
• comprises short answer questions and questions requiring more extended responses
• an Insert will be available for use with this unit
Unit 3 – Create a media product (16.67%)
Non-examined assessment (NEA) work completed and assessed internally before being externally moderated by the exam board.
Unit 24 – Cross media industry awareness (8.33%)
Non-examined assessment (NEA) work completed and assessed internally before being externally moderated by the exam board.
Year 2:
Unit 2 Pre-production and planning (25%)
2 hour written exam – 80 marks
• comprises short answer questions and questions requiring more extended responses
• an Insert will be available for use with this unit
Unit 7 – Journalism and the news industry (16.67%)
Non-examined assessment (NEA) work completed and assessed internally before being externally moderated by the exam board.
Unit 23 – Create a personal media profile (8.33%)
Non-examined assessment (NEA) work completed internally before being externally moderated by the exam board.
Qualification Grading
External assessments are graded Near Pass, Pass, Merit or Distinction.
NEA units are graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.
All units must achieve a grade to be awarded the full qualification which is graded Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*
Entry requirements
GCSE of 4 or above in English is essential.
