Course Summary
This course is designed for those who wish to learn the art of barbering and enable them to work as a barber in this ever increasing industry.
All learners will create an image based on a theme of their choice and have a chance to participate in the British Barbers competition.
During the course you will learn, practice and perform on paying clients a variety of barbering services whilst working towards industry services.
All learners have the opportunity to engage in one week’s work experience in barbers and are encouraged to gain more.
All learners will complete functional skills dependent on GCSE results.
Units Covered:
Cut Men’s Hair – including neckline and outline shapes
Cut Facial Hair – tapered beard line, full beard outline and moustache
Style Men’s Hair – various styling techniques and finishing looks, using a wide range of products
Colour Hair – you will learn various colouring techniques
Course Details
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The course is based on development and assessment of practical skills and current industry knowledge based on an APL skills test and interview.
Applicants must be prepared to work one day per week in industry and one separate block week during the course.
Entry requirements
Students must possess 4 GCSEs at grade D/grade 3 or above to include Maths and English.
All candidates will be interviewed, attend a Pre-Induction Day which will assess dexterity, literacy and numeracy and you will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment and good communication skills.

Ideally on completion of your course you will be able to move onto the NVQ Level 3 Barbering course to further develop the skills that you have gained at Level 2.
