Biology is one of our most popular Science based subjects. Our brand new course for September 2020 entry offers students the chance to further their study of Biology by taking a different approach from the traditional A Level route.

In this course you will study how the human body functions at a genetic, cellular and tissue level, developing a deep understanding of how Biology and lifestyle factors impact the health of individuals. It is an ideal option to support a career in the Health and Science fields.  


This exciting course focuses on Human Biology developing your knowledge, understanding and essential practical research skills in Applied Human Biology and Health Science areas.

Topics include:

 - Principles of Applied Human Biology  

- Practical microbiology and infectious diseases

- Human Biology and health issues

You will also explore a range of additional topics such as genetics, human reproduction and fertility, and diseases. 

Our enthusiastic and dedicated staff will bring learning to life, helping you to explore the topic of Human Biology and prepare you for your next steps. This is a highly interactive and hands-on course, and you will benefit from the input of our visiting industry speakers and a range of trips and visits. 

How will it be delivered?

Assessment is via assignments and externally assessed exams, including a task completed under supervised conditions.

Entry requirements

Grade 4 In GCSE Maths and one Grade 4 within GCSE Single or Combined Science grades or a pass in a vocational level 2 Science qualification.  General entry criteria will also apply.  This is available on our website.

This is a popular option for students who are looking to progress to careers in the field, and works well with complementary courses to offer access to a varied range of higher education degree courses. For example, you could combine this with Health and Social Care to access a degree in Occupational Health, a Sport Science degree when combined with BTEC Sport and Exercise Science or Nursing when combined with A Level Psychology and Sociology or with BTEC Health and Social Care – the opportunities are diverse!

In addition to developing your knowledge, you will enhance your employability skills, including cognitive and problem solving skills, critical thinking and interpersonal skills such as self-management, adaptability and resilience.
