Course Summary

This qualification is designed to provide learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to develop competence as a social care worker in a range of social care support settings. Equivalent to 3 A levels, the qualification has been designed to develop the knowledge and skills needed when working in social care settings. The qualification will provide employers with reliable evidence of a learner’s attainment against occupational standard knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) which form the minimum requirements for entry into the workplace and or further study. The content of this qualification aligns with the KSBs required for the Lead Adult Care Worker occupational standard.

Recognised by universities to support progression to social work and adult nursing degrees, while also preparing learners for direct entry into the health and social care workforce.

You will study:

The qualification covers a wide range of areas which includes units covering:

• working in social care

• the care and support planning process

• values and behaviours

• mental health and wellbeing

• learning disabilities

• dementia awareness

• Understanding anatomy and physiology

• mental health and wellbeing

• prevention and control of infection

The qualification is assessed through a range of methods including:

Internally set and assessed units

Direct observation of learner working in placement

Professional discussion

Reflective accounts

Expert witness testimonies

Entry requirements

These qualifications are for post-16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning.

There are no specific skills or knowledge a learner must have for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they have already achieved a L2 qualification in health and social care.

There is a requirement for level 3 Social Care students to have 4 GCSE at grade 4 and above including maths and English

Student will also take part in an interview prior to enrolling on the course.

Equipment required

Pen, Paper, USB, folder, access to a computer- these can be accessed in college. Uniform for placement and an enhanced DBS
