Public Services - Level 3 Uniformed Public Services

Life in the Public Services can be challenging, rewarding, interesting, and exciting in which you will require a variety of skills, knowledge, and expertise to succeed. This course/programme will help you develop all these qualities and give you an introduction to careers within this sector, whilst developing many other attributes such as communication and leadership skills, teamworking skills and confidence, that are vitally important in all uniformed public service roles.

Voluntary work and social action involvement are important attributes that students can hold and that will help them when entering the workplace. All students will be required to participate in such activities as part of their programme of study with the college work experience team available for support.

Depending on the programme level you can expect you to learn through class work, team activities and other practical’s, visits and outdoor activities. Lectures, oral presentations, tutorials, individual research and group work will help further develop your communication and team-working skills. You will attend a residential towards the end of the academic year where you will be assessed in challenging situations to demonstrate skills and qualities to allow you to meet the higher grades on your course.

As part of the programme of study all students will participate in many external activities that teaches the core subjects in life, team building, resilience, and confidence. Students may have the opportunity to continue their Duke of Edinburgh from school (up to silver level) or start from scratch and work towards their Bronze level award.

There are continuous assessments throughout the course. These consist of projects, presentations, physical demonstrations, and written assignments.

You may also be required to sit a controlled assessment as part of the course requirements; this will aid and develop your time management and rational thinking skills that will help you in your future career.

Level 3 Diploma

4 GCSE Grade 9-4, including English.

OR

Level 2 Public Services, with a merit profile.

Level 3 Extended Diploma

5 GCSEs Grade 9-4, including English and Maths.

After Level 3 previous students have undertaken degrees in law, public policy, criminology, peace studies, psychology, sociology and many more.

The University Centre Wakefield here also provides the opportunity to continue your studies onto our Foundation Degree and BA (Hons) in Public Services programme, or our BA (Hons) Criminology & Law degree offered at our City campus.
