This Acting programme, at Mechanics Performing Arts is for students who wish to study in a lively and challenging environment. As Acting students, you will have the opportunity to explore, develop and test your creativity within a qualification structure which is stimulating, demanding and provides a supportive transition into higher level study or employment in the performing arts industry. There will be a wide range of opportunities for you to perform in our professional theatre, alongside chances to attend professional performances in both regional and national venues. You will be taught by industry experienced tutors alongside visiting professionals working within the industry.

Please Note: Work placement opportunities will be available.

This course is a practical, work related course with academic and theoretical exploration throughout. You will develop through completing assignments and projects based on the realistic industrial activities and demands of acting. You’ll have the opportunity to show your work in a number of public performances and will also get the chance to perform in the performing arts festival at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Through performances, practical and theoretical project-based work.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade 9-4, including English or Maths and a Grade 3 in either

English or Maths.

OR

4 GCSEs at Grade 9-4 and Level 2 in either English or Maths.

OR

GCSE English or Maths at Grade 4 or Level 2 English or Maths and successful completion of Level 2 Performing & Production Arts or equivalent at Merit Grade.

PLUS

Satisfactory interview/audition.


Your next steps...

If you complete the course with an appropriate pass grade with maths and English you can progress through the levels.

HND Theatre, offered by Wakefield College, or degrees in acting, drama, theatre arts or performing arts at other Universities. Vocational courses at drama schools.

You may find work within a wide range of performing arts roles such as actor, performer, playwright, director, community arts worker, teacher, entrepreneur.
