Course Summary

Journalism is one of the fastest paced and changing industries there is. Today journalism isn’t just about writing, modern journalism means using digital platforms to produce exciting content in film, podcast, radio, blogging and vlogging.

The Creative Industries broadcasting sector is an exciting place to be. Whether you’re out in the field or streaming from the studio, the UK’s plans for the next generation digital infrastructure which includes full fibre and 5G, will give broadcasters the perfect platform.

A keen interest in current affairs, sports, TV and radio is essential. You’ll develop excellent communication and presentation skills to produce creative industry standard broadcasting outputs. You’ll be working in high specification, purpose built TV and radio studios taking on roles like producer, editor and production manager.

Course Details

You will have the opportunity to work with industry clients planning and producing creative content, from TV studio productions to live radio broadcasts and you’ll gain skills in communication and presentation. You will develop and demonstrate skills and knowledge required to work within the journalism industry and produce a series of professional products that will help you stand out from the crowd. You will also have the chance to work on events, audio production, photojournalism and written journalism.

Having the chance to work with industry standard hardware and software will give you the skills for employment or university. As part of your course you will study the following units:
  • News production in TV, radio and print
  • Produce a media campaign across radio, film and social media
  • Factual programming on TV, radio, film and online
  • Photojournalism
  • Audio in broadcasting
  • Investigatory skills

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will be assessed on a mixture of practical work and coursework.

Entry requirements

  • Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including GCSE English and maths
  • A genuine enthusiasm for creative production and journalism
