Course Summary

Level 3 is aimed at developing your artistic skills in fashion and textiles.

Year 1 you will study towards the Diploma and explore a wide range of techniques, with the creation of textiles and fashion being central to every project. We also look closely at the work of others and strive to create exciting, experimental outcome that are supported by innovative sketchbooks.

Year 2 you will progress to the Extended Diploma and focus on creating more specialist fashion and textile pieces. You will begin to work more independently, developing ideas of a more personal nature, the course culminates in a final self-initiated project and exhibition to showcase your collection of creative work. The course is aimed at anyone who has a creative mind, wants to develop their design knowledge and skills and has a real passion and desire to work in the creative industries.

You will gain self confidence in your portfolio work and a range of personal skills, such as, working within a group, independence and advise on completing application forms for employment and university, you will be guided through interview processes this will equip you for applications and interviews at university, apprenticeships or employment.

Course Details

What you will study

Examples of some of the units/models you may study are:

Primary and secondary research

Basic garment construction

Draping and constructing on the stand

Printed textiles

Hand and machine embroidery

Surface pattern

Exploratory samples

Creative drawing and design work


How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will be continually assessed by your tutors throughout the academic year, an external moderator will verify and confirm your final grades.

Level 3 - Year 1 – will complete one module, Part A – skills development and Part B Creative Project, this will be internally assessed and graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction

Year 2 – will complete a further module, Part A – Personal Progression and Part B Creative Industry Response. Graded at a Pass, merit or Distinction.

The combination of grades from both years will determine the overall grade for the course.


Entry requirements

Level 3 ( Fashion Textile)

4 GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English or maths

OR

4 GCSEs at grade 9-4 and Level 2 in either English or maths

OR

Successful completion of Level 2 or equivalent at Merit grade, plus GCSE English or maths at grade 4 or Level 2 English or maths

If you complete the course with an appropriate pass grade with maths and English you can progress through the levels.

This study programme offers progression to a variety of art-related courses. Our own Foundation Diploma in Art & Design is a recommended progression route, or you may wish to apply to a university. During the course we will explain all the possible options and support you through the application process.
