Course Summary
This qualification is designed to provide learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to develop competence as a social care worker in a range of social care support settings. This qualification develops the knowledge and skills needed when working in social care settings. It contains mandatory units which allow the learner to develop the knowledge and skills which are required for the role.
During the course, students will complete a work placement within a social care setting, allowing them to further develop their skills and apply them in practice. Placement could be in a setting such as the below:
• Residential or nursing homes
• Domiciliary care
• Day centres
• Some clinical healthcare settings
• Community settings
• Children’s home
• Supported housing
• Day centre
• Homeless shelter
• Supported living
Course Details
The qualification covers a wide range of areas which includes units covering:
• Working in social care
• The care and support planning process
• Values and behaviours
• Mental health and wellbeing
• Learning disabilities
• Dementia awareness
• Health and safety
• Prevention and control of infection
• Personal and professional development
How will it be delivered and assessed?
All units are internally graded Pass – Distinction*. You are required to create a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates achievement from all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria associated with each unit.
Assessment methods within the portfolio of evidence may include:
• Case study assessments
• Presentations (individual/group)
• Written reports
• Discussions
• Poster presentations
• Assessor observation
Entry requirements
5 GCSEs Grade 4-9, including English Language.
Maths should not be below a Grade 3.
