Course Summary

This course is ideal for students who want to pursue a career within the Health, Social Care and childcare field. It will provide students with a breadth of knowledge, as they develop an insight into health, safety and security measures and the importance of promoting equality, diversity and rights in a range of settings. Learners will examine a range of theoretical perspectives which underpin current practice, whilst exploring the factors that have shaped public health, both historically and in the present day.

The Technical Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels and carries equivalent UCAS points.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Year 1:

Unit 1 – Building positive relationships in Health and Social Care (5.56%) Non-examined assessment (NEA) work completed and assessed internally before being externally moderated by the exam board.

Unit 2 – Equality, diversity and rights in Health and Social Care (5.56%) 1 hour 30 minutes written exam – 60 marks

Unit 3 – Health, safety and security in Health and Social Care (5.56%) 1 hour 30 minutes written exam – 60 marks

Unit 4 – Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care (5.56%) 2 hour written exam – 100 marks

Unit 13 – Sexual health, reproduction and early development stages (5.56%) Non-examined assessment (NEA) work completed and assessed internally before being externally moderated by the exam board.

Unit 14 – The impact of long-term physiological conditions (5.56%) Non-examined assessment (NEA) work completed and assessed internally before being externally moderated by the exam board.

Unit 24 – Public Health (2.78%) Non-examined assessment (NEA) work completed and assessed internally before being externally moderated by the exam board.

Unit 25 – Research methods in health, social care and childcare (11.11%) 2 hour written exam – 60 marks

Year 2:

Unit 5 – Infection Control (5.56%) Non-examined assessment (NEA) work completed and assessed internally before being externally moderated by the exam board.

Unit 6 – Personalisation and a person-centred approach to care (5.56%) 1 hour 30 minutes written exam – 60 marks

Unit 7 – Safeguarding (5.56%) 1 hour 30 minutes written exam – 60 marks

Plus the following three units of non-examined assessment (NEA) work completed and assessed internally before being externally moderated by the exam board.

Unit 12 – Promote positive behaviour (5.56%)

Unit 16 – Supporting people with dementia (5.56%)

Unit 17 – Supporting people with mental health conditions (5.56%)

Unit 18 – Caring for older people (5.56%)

Unit 21 – Looked after children and young people (5.56%)

Unit 23 – Sociology for health and social care (5.56%)

Qualification Grading

Written exams are graded Near Pass, Pass, Merit or Distinction.

NEA units are graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.

All units must achieve a grade to be awarded the full qualification, which is graded PPP, MPP, MMP, MMM, DMM, DDM, DDD, DDD*, DD*D* or D* D*D*



Entry requirements

GCSE of 4 or above in English is essential.

Completion of this qualification will enable students to progress onto a number of careers within the Health, Social Care, and Childcare sectors via higher education or entry level employment such as apprenticeships.
