Course Summary
This one-year course is designed to allow you to gain a good grounding and develop skills within the Engineering sector.
The course is particularly suitable for you if:
• You wish to become an Engineer.
• You are thinking about Engineering as a career but would like some experience of the job role first, or wish to learn new skills.
• You are looking to progress to an Engineering Apprenticeship.

Units:
Electrical Circuits
Electronics
General Fabrication
Hand-Fitting and Assembling
Sheet Metalwork (3mm or less)
MIG Welding
Thermal Cutting
Machining (Turning and Milling)
Computer Aided Design (3D CAD Modelling)
Engineering Technical Drawings
In addition, you will be expected to successfully complete a one-week work placement.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment: 90% coursework, 10% exam
The qualification is assessed by:
Portfolio of assessment
Verbal/written questioning
Witness testimony
Assessor observations
Entry requirements
Standard Level 2 entry requirements apply – 4 GCSE passes at Grade 3, to include English, Maths and Science. At least 2 GCSE subjects at Grade 3 are required alongside alternative GCSE qualifications. Please note: If you have not achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and/or Maths you will be required to continue studying these alongside your college course.
Your next steps...
On successful completion many students choose to enrol on a Full-Time Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering Technologies (Electrical or Mechanical pathway), or you may decide to do an Apprenticeship to earn while you learn or find work, or to enter employment.
