Course Summary

This qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and skills needed to work in the building services engineering industry. It will prepare you to enter the industry through employment or as an apprentice or if you are considering progression to Higher Education.

This two-year course has been developed in collaboration with leading employers and combines College-based studies in our dedicated Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Centre along with a minimum of a 45-day industry placement.

Course Details

  • Health and safety practices associated with carrying out electrotechnical systems engineering
    • Installation methods and termination of connections
    • Systems and products used in electrotechnical engineering
    • Analysing and using information to and from electrotechnical systems
    • Removal processes as part of system decommissioning

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will be assessed by two externally set exams covering knowledge from the building services engineering common core components.

In year 2, you will complete an Occupational Specialism Assignment: The duration of the assessment is 24 hours and you will be assessed against the following themes:

  • Health and safety
  • Design and planning
  • Systems and components
  • Inspect and test systems and components
  • Report and information
  • Handover and communication
  • Working with faults

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including Maths and English at grade 5 or above.

Equipment required

You will need to provide writing and drawing equipment and a scientific calculator. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided.

Furthermore, the completion of this qualification gives you the opportunity to progress onto Higher Education courses and training.
