Course Summary
The T Level in Digital Production, Design and Development is a relatively new qualification which will allow students to follow a relevant career pathway. In an ever-evolving world, the skills learnt on this course will equip students to progress into employment or an apprenticeship in the digital sector, or pursue further study at university.
The work placement aspect of the course allows students to forge links with local businesses and build a useful network for their future progression. The course lends itself to a wide range of careers including Graphic Design, Computer Software Engineering, Web Development and Digital Security.
Course Details
In Year 1, students will gain an understanding of the core knowledge required for the digital sector including:
How digital technologies impact business and market environment.
The ethical and moral implications of digital technology.
Using data in software design.
Using digital technologies to analyse and solve problems.
Digital environments including physical, virtual and cloud environments.
Legal and regulatory obligations relating to digital technologies.
The privacy and confidentiality of
personal data.
The technical, physical and human aspects of internet security.
Planning digital projects.
Testing software, hardware and data.
Digital tools for project management and collaboration.
Students will get to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the core content and their core skills to solve occupationally relevant situations and/or problems.
In their second year, in addition to the core content, each student will also complete a module of occupation-specific content in Digital Support.
Students will focus on the knowledge and skills that are required to achieve the following performance outcomes:
Apply procedures and controls to maintain the digital security of an organisation and its data.
Install, configure, and support software applications and operating systems.
Discover, evaluate, and apply reliable sources of knowledge.
The aim is to deepen the core knowledge developed in students’ first year, in order to produce competent practitioners who are ready for the digital sector.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
T Level students spend 80% of their time in the classroom and the other 20% of their time on a relevant industry placement, getting real on-the-job-experience.
Students complete externally set exams at the end of each academic year and skill assessments are used to demonstrate competency skills.
Students receive an overall grade of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.
Entry requirements
Grade 4 in Maths and Grade 4 in English Language. Merit grade in Level 2 IT if studied.
