Course Summary

In this course, you will gain a variety of useful skills and knowledge in areas like health and safety, science, measurement, building technology, information and data, and digital technology. You will explore site carpentry, learning all about structural tasks such as flooring, roofing, frames, partitions, and stairs, as well as joinery tasks like skirting boards, architraves, hanging doors, and handrails. Additionally, you will improve your problem-solving, communication, and creative skills.

This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge required to perform site joinery activities in relation to first fix structural carcassing with flooring, roofing, frames, partitions and stairs. You will also develop skills and knowledge with second fix joinery activities with skirting boards, architraves, hanging doors and handrails and balusters.

Course Details

The course is structured with the following units:

Health and Safety

Principles of building construction

Carry out first fix flooring and roofing

Carry out first fix frames, partitions and stairs

Carry out second fixing operations

Carry out carpentry maintenance

Set up and operate a circular saw

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Throughout the study programme your work will be assessed for a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade. Achieving this Diploma means that you have reached the standards expected by the industry.

Entry requirements

This course is for 16-18 years olds. Successful completion at Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery Diploma OR, you must hold GCSE English and Maths. One of these qualifications must be a minimum Grade 2 and the other must be a minimum Grade 3.

Equipment required

Basic stationery for the classroom activities. There are five points of Personal protective equipment (PPE) required in the workshop at all times. Each student is expected to provide their own safety boots and the department will provide the other four pieces: Hi-viz vest Hard hat Eye safety Gloves

Upon completion, you could progress onto a Site Carpentry Apprenticeship or a Level 3 On Site Carpentry T Level.
