Biology is one of our most popular Science based subjects here at HNC. Our BTEC Biology Extended Certificate (equivalent to 1 A Level)offers the chance to build upon the knowledge gained at GCSE by taking a different approach to the traditional A Level route.

This exciting programme focuses on Human Biology and develops your knowledge, understanding and practical research skills across Applied Human Biology and Health Science.

Topics you’ll study include:

- Principles of Applied Human Biology

- Practical microbiology and infectious diseases

- Human Biology and health issues

- Genetics and Genetic Engineering

On this fascinating course, you will explore how the human body functions at a genetic, cellular and tissue level, developing a deep understanding of how Biology and lifestyle factors impact upon the health of individuals. It is an ideal option to support your career in the Health and Science fields.

Assessment is via assignments and externally assessed exams, including a written task completed under supervised conditions.

Grade 4 In GCSE Maths and one Grade 4 within GCSE Single or Combined Science grades or a pass in a vocational level 2 Science qualification. General entry criteria also applies. This is available on our website.

BTEC Biology (Applied Human) is recognised by higher education providers as contributing to the admission requirements of many Applied Human Biology and Health Science related degree courses, such as Occupational Health, Nursing, Midwifery and Sports Science.
