Course Summary
This course is ideal for students who have completed a Level 1 qualification or have prior experience in the motor vehicle industry.
At this level, students will begin to specialise in mechanical systems, with a particular focus on how engines operate. The course explores engine construction, internal processes, and the components involved in intake, combustion, and exhaust.
This unit builds on the foundational knowledge gained at Level 1 and helps students develop a deeper understanding of core vehicle systems, preparing them for more advanced practical tasks and further progression in the automotive field.
Course Details
The course is delivered through a combination of hands-on workshop sessions and classroom-based theory. Students who have not yet achieved a Grade 4 in GCSE Maths or English will continue to work towards these qualifications alongside their technical studies.

Health and Safety in the Workshop
Fabrication Skills
Cooling and Lubrication Systems
Air, Fuel, Ignition, and Exhaust Systems
This course provides a strong platform for moving into Level 3 study, an apprenticeship, or entry-level employment in the motor vehicle industry.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
You will be assessed through practical tasks in the workshops and completion of portfolio work and end of unit exams.
Entry requirements
GCSEs at Grade 9-3 in English and Maths.
AND
A Level 1 Certificate qualification.
