Course Summary

This qualification aims to educate you to make informed decisions which will facilitate your progression, primarily but not exclusively to appropriate higher education in art, design and media.

We build on your prior experience, linking skills already acquired, with ideas and challenges which will extend your critical independence, and provide you with a full understanding of the career opportunities in art, design and the media sector.

Course Details

This course explores a wide range of art and design activities including media experimentation and research. You will carry out a major project which will involve you creating a body of work for exhibition, linked to a personally devised and written project proposal.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Your work will be assessed throughout the course, both internally and by an external moderator. At the end of each studio module you will present a folder of work for discussion and grading.

The final major project is exhibited as part of the Arts Festival in June/July which is open to the public. In order to gain a full Extended Diploma, you must pass all the course units.

Entry requirements

  • One A Level or Level 3 Diploma qualification. (Individual consideration will be given if you are 21 years of age or over with no formal qualifications)
  • You must be aged 18 years or above
  • A good portfolio of work

Equipment required

You will require a basic personal and portable kit of materials and equipment. General art and design materials and equipment will be available for student use within studios.

Your next steps...

Employment – This course can form the foundations for a range of creative occupations including Graphic Designer, Artist, Entrepreneur, Fashion Designer, Interior Design, Product Design and other related roles.

Education – You could progress onto university, studying a variety of art, design, fashion and crafts disciplines or other higher level qualifications such as a Higher National Diploma (HND).
