Course Summary

On completion of this qualification you will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair

using barbering techniques, style and finish hair, cut facial hair into shape and provide shaving

services for men. You will be able to work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to

very curly, wiry hair. You will also be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate

the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices

associated with your role and be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision,

with exceptional client care skills.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The apprenticeship consists of a minimum 30 hours a week. This includes 1 day a week at college. The rest will take place in the barber shop that you have chosen to do your apprenticeship in. You will be working full time in the barber shop learning about the barber trade and all the practical skills that come along with it.

At college you will be learning a mixture of theory and practical and will be working with real clients throughout the course.

The End-point Assessment is carried out by an Apprenticeship Assessor who assesses the apprentice’s skills, knowledge and behaviours through practical observations and oral questions. This takes 3 hours maximum excluding breaks and is all completed in one day.

Entry requirements

A-C's in Maths and English are not necessary, however they will help you move through the course faster.

Good communication skills and a passion for hair.

Your next steps...

At the end of your course you will be able to work as a junior/graduate barber in a barber shop, you will also have the option to progress on to your level 3 in barbering or level 2 hairdressing. From there you could move on in to a variety of job opportunities or even start your business.
