Course Summary
You will come to understand some of the main ideas and methods of physics and learn to apply your knowledge to solve problems. Topics studied in the first year include Particles, Radiation, Waves, Mechanics, Materials, and Electricity and in the second year Further Mechanics, Thermal Physics, Fields, Nuclear Physics, and Astrophysics. You will also study how to make measurements and evaluate errors and your skills will be assessed leading to a separate certificate to endorse practical competency.
Course Details
This course is mixed up of standard units and additional (optional) units at the end of year one. We aim to help students devlop their A Level in a holistic way that they can apply to their specific areas of study.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
As with all of our A Level courses Physics will be delivered in 6 hours per week or teaching time. It is strongly suggested that you spend an additional 3-4 hours per week of independent work and research towards this qualification. In addition you will have to complete 12 required practicals. There will be three final exams.
Entry requirements
Grade 6 in two single science GCSEs (including Physics) or grade 66 in GCSE Combined Science. A grade 6 in Maths and grade 5 in English would also be advantageous.
Equipment required
A scientific calculator will be essential. A laptop or other electronic device for accessing google classroom would be useful in order for you to access online materials and learning modules.
