Course Summary
Seeking to turn your passion for football into a career? Our unique sport course, in partnership with Leeds United FC, offers you the opportunity to train and play football regularly whilst studying towards an NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity (Sports Coaching) when you progress to Level 3. Staff members are UEFA qualified and the course will provide opportunities for the students to work with guest coaches.
Course Details
What will I study?
During the course you will study areas such as:
Leading sport and physical activity
Coaching sport
Activity leadership
Development of sport skills
Leading different groups
Delivering a sports activity event
You will have the opportunity to work towards Functional Skills or GCSE in English and Maths depending on previous qualifications
How will it be delivered and assessed?
You will be required to complete 65 hours of work placement with a business, particularly one that specialises in customer-facing services.
You can either seek a placement and work with our Work Placement Advisers who can sign off on your provided placement or a placement can be assigned to you by our Careers and Employability Team.
Entry requirements
4 GCSEs at grade 3 (old GCSE grade D) or above to include two from English, Maths and Science, with at least a grade 2 (old GCSE grade E) in the remaining subject. Alternatively a suitable Level 1 vocational qualification with English and Maths at Level 1.
If Maths & English are not achieved then these can be worked on during the duration of the course through specialist Maths & English lesson & tutors at Askham Bryan College.
Your next steps...
After successful completion of Level 2, students can progress onto the Level 3 Leeds United FC Education Course.
This can then prepare you for degree-level study or employment in the sports, leisure, fitness industry.
Progression and Development Sessions
All students enrolled on a Level 2 or Level 3 course will be required to attend Progression and Development sessions every week. These sessions will cover a wide range of topics from careers and employability, British Values and equality and diversity to essential life skills such as mental health and wellbeing, drugs and alcohol and personal safety.
