Course Summary

This course is suitable for adults (19+) who want to develop their skills, techniques and overall understanding of Studio Production, Composition, Sound Creation, Composing for TV and Film and Live sound engineering. This course will give you all the experience needed to prepare you for a career within the Music Industry. This is one year course also offers excellent progression opportunities at both local and national Higher Education institutions and internally to the College’s own degree programmes.

The ideal candidate will possess a passion for Music Production that has been acquired through their personal interests or commercial activities in this field.

You will be taught through a number of teaching and learning styles that will allow you to gain full access to our specialist facilities within the Music Department such as our Recording Studios, Post Production Suites, Live Sound Venue and Music Production suites that run dedicated Audio Software such as Cubase and Logic.


Course Details

The topics covered on the course will develop and enhance your practical music technology/production skills but also your theoretical knowledge. Modules include:

  • Studio Production
  • Composing for Media, TV and Film
  • Listening Skills
  • Live Sound Techniques
  • Practical Harmony and Composition
  • Mixing Techniques
  • Sound Creation

The course comprises of a combination of graded and ungraded units, including Study Skills that will support your application to HE courses (Online UCAS application, portfolio building, interview preparation etc.)


How will it be delivered and assessed?

The course involves a variety of assessment techniques including practical work, written assignments and oral presentations.


Entry requirements

There are no formal qualifications required for this course although you need to have achieved or be working towards Level 2 or GCSE Grade 4 or above in English and/or Maths, which you can take alongside the Access course if necessary.

A passion and interest in Music Production related subject is highly desirable, along with examples of work to be presented during the interview process.

This course will allow you to progress on to degree courses in specific areas of Music Technology at both local and national universities and other Higher Education institutions.
