Course Summary
On completion of this apprenticeship the individual will be a competent and job-ready Healthcare Support Worker. The apprenticeship standard provides a high-level description of the skills, knowledge, values and behaviours required of
the Healthcare Support Worker apprentice (Level 2).
This course allows you to choose optional units which are suitable to your work area.

What you will study
To complete the Apprenticeship Standard you are required to evidence the knowledge and skill requirements of the following areas the apprenticeship standard in a portfolio:
1. Duty 1 Act within the limits of own competence and within agreed ways of working, following the relevant local and national standards, policies and protocols used in the workplace
2. Duty 2 Monitor the health and well-being of individuals in your care
3. Duty 3 Assist individuals to maximise their independence
4. Duty 4 Contribute to the daily running and administration of an effective and efficient service or team
5. Duty 5 Use communication methods and techniques to overcome barriers and meet individuals’ wishes, preferences and needs
6. Duty 6 Promote the health and wellbeing of individuals
7. Duty 7 Record, report and store information related to individuals
8. Duty 8 Maintain own and others’ safety at work
9. Duty 9 Maintain and further develop your own skills and knowledge
10. Duty 10 Contribute to the quality of services by participating in improvement activities
How will it be delivered and assessed?
How you will be assessed
You must meet the appropriate skills, knowledge and behaviours prior to taking the end-point assessment.
You will be allocated an Assessor who will visit you in your workplace and observe you carrying out your daily tasks and duties. You will be required to compile an electronic portfolio of evidence of your competence and knowledge, which your Assessor will help you to prepare. You will need to work towards an end point assessment, which includes the following components:
1. An observation of practice undertaken in the workplace and a discussion following this
2. A portfolio of evidence completed by the apprentice with an interview
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements except a College interview, and you must be at least 16 years of age. However, since this qualification is assessed in the workplace, you need a job or work placement which offers you suitable experience and the chance to demonstrate the necessary skills. Evidence of completing the Care Certificate.
Apprentices without Level 1 English and maths will need to achieve this prior to taking the end-point assessment. If there is time you may be asked to attempt your L2 in English and Maths.
Basic computer skills are essential.

Further study
Learners can progress to an apprenticeship or qualification such as the Level 3 Diploma in Care; the Lead Adult Care Worker apprenticeship; or the Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support or the Senior Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship, provided they are in a suitable job role.
