What will you be working towards?

Code CompScience
Qualification Type GCE A/AS Level or Equivalent
Qualification Level Level 3
Course type Full Time

Overview

As a computer scientist you will learn how to write reliable and efficient code using industry standard best practices. You will be asked to think about problems in such a way that they can be potentially solved using an algorithm, how to write algorithms and how to program a computer to automate them. You will develop the ability to apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, Although students will have the opportunity to become specifically proficient in the use of particular programming languages, which are prolific in the software development industry, first and foremost students learn to think algorithmically and develop generic programming principles that transcend all languages. You will also be required to undertake your own project, which counts towards your final grade.

How will it be delivered?

As with all of our A Level courses, Computer Science will be delivered in 6 hours per week or teaching time. It is strongly suggested that you spend an additional 3-4 hours per week of independent work and research towards this qualification.

Entry requirements

Grade 6 in Computer science and Maths is essential for this course.

Your next steps...

The skills developed in Computer Science will allow you to access careers in a wide-ranging field. Your critical thinking, abstract thinking and mathematical reasoning will place you well for jobs in software development, programming and cyber security to name a few.
