The content of our BTEC qualification has been developed in consultation with employers and relevant professional bodies to confirm that it is appropriate for those interested in working in the sector. It is equivalent to 3 A-levels and nationally recognised by UCAS and Higher Education Institutions.
In conjunction with the education programme, we are committed to providing a high performance player development environment that meets the RFL standards, while allowing students to continue their further education study.
Learners on the Rugby pathway will take part in an elite player development programme, consisting of weekly training sessions alongside the academy players, strength and conditioning programmes and recovery sessions. Learners also have the opportunity to represent Huddersfield Giants in the College Rugby League, playing against other professional Rugby League development teams.
We deliver a Level 3 BTEC Sport qualification, equivalent to three A-levels, to 16-18 year olds rugby players. It is designed to provide the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for employment in the sport sector. Alongside the academic requirements learners have the fantastic opportunity to train and play for the Giants Development Academy, which closely follows the Giants Academy training programme, with opportunities throughout the year to train with Academy players and play against other Development Academies.
The course consists of 13 units which explore a variety of different areas, including:

- Anatomy and Physiology in Sport
- Developing Coaching Skills
- Careers in Sport & Active Leisure Industry
- Sports Psychology
- Sporting Injuries
- Fitness Training
The course is delivered in a practical manner with assessments ranging from written reports, portfolios and posters to verbal assessments, presentations and practical assessment. There is no formal exam-based assessments with all units are assessed via assignments. An overall grade for the qualification is awarded which has UCAS equivalency and is recognised by universities in the UK when establishing their entry requirements for higher education.
4 GCSE's at grade C or above, to include English Language and Mathematics. A sport qualification at High School is beneficial but not essential.
