Overview
The aims and objectives of this qualification are to enable students to:
- Understand mathematics and mathematical processes in a way that promotes confidence, fosters enjoyment and provides a strong foundation for progress to further study;
The qualification is divided 50% Core Pure Maths, 25% Further Statistics and 25% Decision Maths.

AS Core Pure Mathematics
Proof, Complex Numbers, Matrices, Further Algebra & Functions, Further Calculus and Further Vectors.
AS Further Statistics and Decision Maths
Discrete Probability Distributions, Poisson & Binomial Distributions, Chi Squared Tests, Algorithms & Graph Theory, Algorithms on Graphs, Critical Path Analysis and Linear Programming.
A Level Core Pure Mathematics
All the same topics as in AS Core Pure are studied in greater depth with additional study of Polar Coordinates, Hyperbolic Functions and Differential Equations.
A Level Further Statistics and Decision Maths
All the same topics as in AS are studied in greater depth with additional study of Geometric & Negative Binomial Distributions, Hypothesis Testing, Central Limit Theorem and probability Generating Functions.
How will it be delivered?
AS: one 1 hour 40 minutes written Core Pure Maths exam out of 80 marks contributing 50%
A Level: two 1 hour 30 mins written Core Pure Maths exams, each out of 75 marks and each contributing 25% plus two 1 hour 30 mins written Applied Maths exams out of 75 marks also contributing 25% each.
Entry requirements
Any student that has gained a grade 6 or better in GCSE Mathematics is eligible to start the Sixth Form course. Students must also be studying A Level Mathematics.
