WHAT IS THE COURSE ABOUT?
This course offers opportunities for students to develop their English expertise by engaging creatively and critically with a wide range of texts. Using literary and linguistic concepts and methods, students analyse literary and non-literary texts in a range of modes and genres, gaining insights into the nature of different discourses and ideas about creativity. Students develop skills as producers and interpreters of language by creating texts themselves and critically reflecting on their own processes of production. Learners will gain an A-Level which is joint Language and Literature. This qualification is universally respected and beneficial for various vocations including journalism, editing, creative writing, politics and marketing.
As a student of English you will quickly realise that English as a subject surrounds us. From speech in daily conversation to the literature of advertising, we are immersed in the subject every day. To help your exploration of English in all its forms, we offer a mix of visits and enrichment opportunities such as:”
• Theatre Trips.
• Guest Practitioners.
• Lectures.
• Collaborative projects with the Netherhall Learning Campus.
• Exploring and visiting places that bring the context of texts to life.
How will it be delivered?
This qualification is linear. This means that students will sit all the AS exams at the end of their AS course and all the A-level exams at the end of their A-level course. There is a highly engaging and exciting coursework element to the A-level in which students get to produce an investigation on their chosen literary and non-literary texts.
