This unique course offers the opportunity to conduct an independent research project from which you can either write a dissertation, carry out an investigation/ field study, create a performance or produce an artefact. Some students select their personal project to extend their knowledge and understanding in a subject they are studying or a field of interest. Other students choose to explore an aspect to suit their particular interests e.g. fashion, music, sport, baking etc. Through specialised workshops, with experienced project leaders, students learn how to carry out an effective study, including providing guidance on using robust research methods with a range of sources, referencing and presentation skills. The independent study skills development whilst studying for this qualification, along with the additional UCAS points, means this project is of keen interest to Year 13 students and the universities to which they apply.
