Do you have an interest in fashion design and want to learn how to design and construct your own garments? This course will see you exploring a wide range of techniques and processes that will allow you to develop an in-depth understanding of shape, form, texture, pattern and colour.
You will develop your skills through a range of topics including:
• Fashion design
• Surface pattern
• Machine embroidery
• Felt making
• Dyeing
• Pattern cutting
Under the direction of our TES Shortlisted Teacher of the Year, you will grow and develop your skills and express yourself creatively and imaginatively.
You’ll enjoy a range of experiences and trips including the opportunity to be inspired by the beautiful surroundings of Venice. You will also showcase your designs at the annual Fashion Show which is hosted at the Lawrence Batley Theatre.
The assessment is coursework with a practical examination. Please speak to our team for further details.
Grade 4 in GCSE Textiles or a relevant GCSE Art subject. If students have not taken a GCSE Art subject, then a portfolio of work will be considered. General entry criteria will also apply, this is available on our website.
Textile Design supports students wanting to pursue a career in Fashion, Textile Design, Interior Design or Costume Design. Many of our student’s progress to related degrees and our alumni work for world leading organisations including Maxmara and Versace.
