Maths, English and IT are key elements of apprenticeship programmes and if you do not already have a GCSE at grade A*-C (or new grade 9-4) in these subjects you will be required to study Functional Skills at the appropriate levels.

Skills in Maths and English will support your apprenticeship programme, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. They will also help you in the future. Most employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have Maths and English GCSEs at A*-C (or new grade 9-4). This is why the development of Maths and English is so important, whatever your field of study.

How you will learn

You will attend College one day per week (9 am up to 7 pm) for two years. You will spend around half your time in the College workshops refining the skills that you use in your workplace, and the other half in developing the theoretical knowledge required through classroom activities such as formal lectures, resource-based learning and practical tasks.

How will it be delivered?

Assessment is continuous over the duration of the course, through both practical activity in the workshops and multiple-choice theory testing. You will also be assessed in the workplace at the end of the course, there will be a practical assessment together with a final theory test.
