In A Level Physics, you will explore the universe and its secrets and phenomena, whilst you learn how to explain the seemingly unexplainable. You will combine practical work with your academic studies, shaping your understanding of the world around you, while you learn about topics as wide ranging as kinematics and cosmology. If you are interested in exploring the concept of space and time, and everything else in between, then this is the course for you!
The topics you study will see you learning about a wide-range of concepts and scientific theories. Topics will include:
• Electricity, waves, classical and further mechanics
• Particle, nuclear and quantum Physics
• Gravitational and electric fields (and their consequences)
• Turning points in the development of Physics
Building on the knowledge you gained at GCSE, at A Level you will develop your practical and problem solving skills within our well-equipped Physics laboratories. Our subject experts will deliver outstanding lessons, and your learning will be brought to life with a range of practical experiments, university lectures and inspiring talks from visiting professionals.
You will have ample opportunity to develop your scientific knowledge inside and outside the classroom, from trips and visits to explore potential career paths, to taking part in our prestigious STEM Ambassador programme.
100% examination. There are 12 required practicals that must be completed for you to achieve the Practical Endorsement.
Grade 7 in GCSE Maths or a grade 6 in GCSE Maths with a GCSE points score of 6.7 or above. Grade 6/5 in GCSE combined Sciences. If studying GCSE single Sciences, then a grade 6 in GCSE Physics plus at least a grade 5 in another GCSE single Science subject. Students must also study A Level Mathematics. General entry criteria will also apply, this is available on our website.
Students who gain an A Level in Physics are highly desirable. The skills learnt in this course such as logic and reasoning, demonstrate to employers and universities alike that you have a range of transferable skills that will facilitate your success in a range of careers.
This well respected A Level will allow you to progress to a wide-range of careers, from Engineering and Architecture to Astrophysics and Astrology, and will particularly benefit those who are aiming to undertake a STEM related degree at a Russell Group university.
