Our BTEC Level 3 Applied Science qualification is available as a number of options. Your choice will depend on your future career plans.

Are you aiming for a career in the STEM Industries? Would you like to further explore and build on the Science learnt at GCSE? If so, this engaging and hands-on Science course could be for you! The BTEC Level 3 in Applied Science will see you combine academic theory with a wide-range of practical activities and experiments, preparing you for the world of work or for progression on to university.
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Science is the three A Level equivalent. This is a full time study programme and is therefore ideal if you have decided on a career or degree in the Sciences. You will cover all of the topics offered by our 1 and 2 A Level equivalent courses along with a number of additional units.
Your topics will see you preparing for further study or employment and give you a wide and comprehensive understanding of the STEM industries and the role of Science in our day-to-day lives. Topics you will cover will include:
• Principles and applications of Science (part 1)
• Practical scientific procedures and techniques
• Science investigation skills
• Laboratory techniques and applications
• Principles and applications of Science (part 2)
• You will complete an investigative Project
• Explore contemporary issues within Science
This is an engaging, hands on and unique course that will see you learn by completing experiments, carrying out research and developing your academic knowledge through coursework. You will develop your knowledge through trips, visits and speakers and with roles within College such as the STEM Ambassador programme.

Assessment is via presentations, group work and assignments and externally assessed exams. Your work will be graded at pass, merit or distinction giving you an overall grade at the end of the course.
Grade 4 in GCSE Maths and two Grade 4s within GCSE Single or Combined Science grades or a Pass in a vocational Level 2 Science qualification (equivalent to two or more GCSEs). General entry criteria applies. Please refer to the website for details.
Our courses have a well-proven record of supporting students to progress to higher education or progress to roles within the STEM industries. Our students often opt for Medical Science related degrees such as Pharmacy, Radiography, Audiology and Paramedical Science, as well as careers in areas such as Nutrition and Forensics.
