Our BTEC Level 3 Computing qualification is available as a single A Level equivalent. You can pair this course with any of our other IT based courses, or as part of a wider study programme – your package of qualifications will depend on your future career ambitions.

This qualification supports a huge range of careers in the IT industry and beyond due to the problem solving and analytical skills you will develop.

Do you like solving problems and want to know more about the science of technology? Do you want to develop knowledge and skills in key and current areas of IT, including mobile apps and how businesses keep their systems secure? Then our Level 3 BTEC Computing is the course for you!


The topics you study will prepare you for a varied range of roles and degree level courses where problem solving and analysis is important. Topics you will study include:

• Principles of Computer Science
• Fundamental of computer systems
• System security and encryption
• Mobile app development

Our dedicated Computing experts will help prepare you for a future in the industry by helping you to develop your technical skills using the latest industry standard software.
This is a highly interactive course, and you will benefit from the input of our visiting industry speakers and events such as our IMPACT event where you will showcase your skills to our visiting experts.

All of our students are encouraged to prepare for their future success by undertaking additional qualifications such as Microsoft Office Specialist.
Through your experience of practical activities and theory you will develop your self-confidence and communication skills. Group work, role plays and presentations will offer you the chance to develop as a student and prepare you for your next step.

How will it be delivered?

Assessment is via presentations, group work and assignments and externally assessed exams. Your work will be graded at pass, merit or distinction giving you an overall grade at the end of the course.

Entry requirements

Grade 4 in GCSE Maths. General entry criteria will also apply, this is available on our website.
